Siskiyou Project seeks a well qualified director for our campaign to seek Congressional legislation to create a Siskiyou Wild Rivers National Salmon and Botanical Area. An ideal candidate will be from southwest Oregon, with strong community ties to the region. The Siskiyou Wild Rivers National Salmon and Botanical Area will establish robust, cohesive protections for the public lands in the Siskiyou Wild Rivers region. Campaign Director Job Description: The ideal candidate has experience in advocacy and/or legislative development, and a passion for the Siskiyou Wild Rivers region. Experience in the following is key: community outreach, political organizing, legislation development, and lobbying. The job requires an enthusiastic self-starter who can manage and inspire our Siskiyou Wild Rivers campaign team. S/he must be friendly, well organized, and skilled in time management.

Computer Skills – Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, and desktop publishing.

Roles of the Campaign Director

  • Coordination of Legislation – work closely with executive director, deputy director, board members, other key staff, allies and Oregon’s Congressional delegation to develop legislation language.
  • Community Outreach – create a diverse constituency of support for the Siskiyou Wild Rivers area, both within Southwest Oregon and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
  • Fundraising Events – assist staff in hosting membership and fundraising events.

Hiring Timeline: The position is open until filled. Applications will begin to be reviewed on July 15, 2008.

Compensation: The starting Campaign Director salary is $33,000 to $38,000/year depending on experience. Benefits include PacificSource major medical health insurance, vacation, and work schedule flexibility.

Office Location: The primary work site is our conservation headquarters at 213 SE H. Street in Grants Pass, Oregon. Working some hours at home is an option.

Who We Are:

Mission: Siskiyou Project is a grassroots network dedicated to permanently protecting the forests, botanical areas and wild rivers of globally outstanding Siskiyou Wild Rivers region. Siskiyou Project combines science, education, and advocacy to build an inspired and effective national constituency for permanent protection of this special place.

Organization Description: Siskiyou Project has been working to protect Siskiyou wildlands and wild rivers in the Southwest Oregon and Northwest California since our incorporation in 1983. Based in Grants Pass and Cave Junction, we are the primary conservation organization working for protection and restoration of public lands on the Siskiyou National Forest and nearby BLM lands (1.3 million acres). Currently our programs include (a) a pro-active educational campaign to promote Congressional legislation establishing a Siskiyou Wild Rivers National Salmon and Botanical Area, and (b) outreach to the public, opinion-leaders, and federal agencies to encourage conservation and limit damage from mining, logging and habitat destruction in the Siskiyou Wild Rivers region.

Place: The public lands of the Siskiyou Wild Rivers region feature five Wilderness Areas, five Wild and Scenic Rivers, the largest remaining complex of wilderness and unprotected roadless areas in the lower 48 states, and have been designated as an Area of Global Botanical Significance by the World Conservation Union. Recreation, research, and restoration opportunities abound.
