Siskiyou FilmFest

This year's festival will be held February 19th and 20th at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass. This film festival features environmental films focusing on sustainability and critical issues which face our region and the planet. Below are a few trailers to some of the films that will be featured at this year's Siskiyou FilmFest. We hope to see you there. Information, schedule, tickets, etc...


Spring Hikes

ALWAYS COME PREPARED: Bring plenty of warm and weather proof layers. Boots are preferable. Don’t forget your warm hat, gloves, sun hat, sunglasses, sun block etc. You must be equipped with plenty of water, lunch and snacks. Shelter/tent and sleeping bags are a must for any campouts. Optional – bring camera, binoculars, guidebooks, anything else useful and creative that you can think of. Most of all come prepared to have fun. Saturday March 20 Snailback Falls
Follow veteran hiker/historian Greg Walter to this seldom seen wonder hidden in the Illinois River canyon, only 3 mile west of Selma. Bring lunch and snacks for this moderate to strenuous 3 mile round-trip hike (elevation gain of 900 feet). This hike is suitable for teenagers and adults. Meet at 9AM at Hellgate Excursions Parking Lot at 9am or 10 am at the west end of Rays Food Store parking lot in Selma. Call Rich at 541-476-6648 for more information.

Saturday March 27 Eight Dollar Mt. Botanical Area
Greg Walter will lead us down to Star Flat and on to the mouth of Deer Creek for lunch on the banks of the Illinois River. After lunch we will hike out via the Kerby Flat Trail back up to the Illinois River Road. This is a moderate 3-mile roundtrip, all day hike, suitable for children over 12 years. Be sure to bring lunch and water. Meet at 9am at Hellgate Excursions Parking lot in Grants Pass or 10 am at the west end of Rays Food Store parking lot in Selma. Sunday April 11 Buzzards Roost
Join Rich Nawa for an easy hike along the spectacular Illinois River. We will see the rare Siskiyou trillium, fawn lilies and many other along the trail. The hike is 6 miles total and is suitable for children over 12 years. Be sure to bring lunch and water. Meet at 10 am at the Book Store parking lot in Gold Beach. Saturday April 17 Days Gulch Botanical Area
Greg Walter will lead us down Days Gulch through Darlingtonia fens and Jeffrey Pine savannah with a lunch stop at Josephine Creek, where gold was first discovered in Oregon. This is a moderate 3-mile downhill hike, suitable for children over 12 years. Be sure to bring lunch and water. Sunday April 25 Rough & Ready Botanical Area
Join Rich Nawa for a walk through our most amazing natural flower garden. This educational hike is especially suited for kids 8 and older, and those interested in getting to know some of the wildflowers found on serpentine soils in the Illinois Valley. This hike is less than a mile on level ground. Meet at 10 am at on the highway side of Rays Food Store in Selma. Call Rich at 541-476-6648 for more information.

Sunday May 2 Illinois River Trail
Hike along the spectacular Illinois River Canyon trail from Briggs Creek to York Creek Botanical Area with Siskiyou Project ecologist Rich Nawa and members of the Native Plant Society of Oregon. This hike features Kalmiopsis leacheana, a beautiful Rhododendron-like flower discovered by botanist Lilla Leach in 1930. Numerous other wild flowers and plants will test our identification skills. Bring a lunch and plenty of water for this all day 6 mile (total) moderate hike on mostly level ground. Meet 10:00 AM on the highway side of Ray’s Food Store parking lot in Selma.
